Fitrah means "a person's natural state at birth" in Arabic. We believe every youth is born pure, innocent and deserves the chance to thrive, no matter their race, religion, or gender.

Our youth are much more than a statistic
At Fitrah, we empower young people aged 16-25 who have experienced foster care, involvement with the justice system, homelessness, or who are out of school. Our youth earn a place on our team, where they help run a successful online bookstore. As they work, they gain promotions, set and achieve personal goals, advocate for their rights, and develop the skills needed for success in any career path they choose.
readiness
Our youth come into our program with no knowledge on how to resell books and leave with much more than that. Every day at the end of their shifts, we have a mentor check in with them at the end of everyshift.
business job
Young people work throughout the week running our book, clothing, and online social enterprise ventures. They lead shifts, process and ship books, manage the warehouse, handle customer service, and more—gaining important work experience, and self-efficacy.
YOU job
Youth participate in intensive case management as they set and achieve goals for their education, career, and life. Our curriculum helps them achieve milestones on their self-directed career pathway.
